EAA284 Meeting at Johnson Machine Service Technologies on October 9 2011

The October meeting of EAA Chapter 284 will be held Sunday October 9th, 2 PM at Johnson Machine Service Technologies, 4504 Infirmary Rd, Miamisburg OH 45342. We will have the opportunity to see Tom Johnson’s Skybolt restoration/rebuild project. The meeting is off site to avoid the Waynesville Sauerkraut festival traffic. Tom has graciously offered to provide food and drink for us.
Directions to JMS Technologies: Although the address is Miamisburg it is really closer to West Carrolton. I will assume that you are going to be traveling from the East. Get to West Carrolton the best way you can or your preferred route. Travel west on Central Ave, go 1 block past the Fire station and turn left on Miami Ave. Follow Miami around the bend and it becomes Farmersville-West Carrolton Rd., cross the railroad tracks and turn right on Infirmary Rd. JMS Technologies will be on the left a short distance north of Farmersville-West Carrolton Rd. Of course you can always use you GPS of your favorite mapping program
It is time to start thinking about officers for next year. Same old group of folks or some new blood?? Its your choice.
Time to start think about 2012 dues. $20/year. Is anybody in favor of using PayPal as a means of paying dues. Small service fee and I can’t lose or forget to deposit your check.
We still have plans to conduct a Young Eagle Rally at the Georgetown Ohio airport on Saturday October 15th. Let’s hope for a nice Indian Summer day. Leaves should be turning and offer a great aerial picture for both pilots and YE’s. Try to arrive by 9 AM and hopefully we can begin flying by 9:30-10:00. All chapter members are welcome to attend. In addition to the pilots we will need help with registration and controlling ground traffic as well as ramp safety. Let me know if you plan on flying or helping on the ground. The Georgetown library has started pre-registration. Target goal is a maximum of 100 YE’s. This would be a fantastic accomplishment if we can pull it off.

I am Mrs. Kate Tiffany, a teacher at Greene County Career Center. My students are studying the Golden Age of Aviation and discovered an aviator named Chubby Miller landed accidentally in a field in Xenia during the 1929 Women’s Air Derby. We also discovered that Chubby had very favorable remarks to what she called, “the kind people of Xenia.”

In honor to commemorate her landing in Xenia and to celebrate our aviation heritage, we would like to raise funds to place a plaque near the area that she landed her airplane.

Three of my students would like to present this idea to your EAA Chapter Meeting on December 1. Please let us know if you are interested in the students’ presentation.

I can be contacted at 937-372-6941 extention 253 or ktiffany@greeneccc.com.

    Thank you

    Kate Tiffany
