EAA Chapter 284 will hold its August meeting on Sunday, August 11, 2013, 2 PM at Red Stewart Airfield, Waynesville Ohio. Ivan and I will provide reports on Oshkosh. And will will discuss planning for the 2013 Tail Dragger Fly In and Pancake Breakfast Sunday September 1, 2013. I hope that we can have a Young Eagles Rally as we usually do. If you are current I hope that you will take some time to schedule a plane to fly Young Eagles on Sunday the 1st.
At Oshkosh I picked up some techniques for forming aluminum ribs, including a couple of tips that I not heard of before. Also got information on a new fabric for aircraft covering, Oratex, from Germany. It’s an outgrowth of coverings that were originally used for model aircraft. The fabric has the color added to the fabric at the time of manufacture and needs no UV coat or additional color coats. Expensive at about $65.00/square yard, but save time in installation and not needing additional chemical coats. The adhesive is a hot melt type of glue that once set can not easily be removed. I will bring a sample with me on Sunday.
