The May 2014 meeting of EAA Chapter 284 will be held on Sunday May 18th. Note that this is the 3rd Sunday and not the 2nd.
The meeting location will be at Jim Hammond’s airstrip and shops on Hyde Rd, about halfway between Xenia and Yellow Springs.
Directions from Red Stewart Airfield below.
Take Rt 42 north to Xenia Ohio. This will take you pretty much to the center of town. In the center of town at the Courthouse turn
right left (North) and continue on Rt 68. Hyde Rd is about 12 miles North of the center of town. Turn left on Hyde Rd. On the South side of the road you should see what looks to be a grass strip and a couple of building. Find a parking spot by the buildings. What looks to be a grass strip is a grass strip, but it isn’t on the charts.
From the Wilmington area you can come in on Route 68. From the Washington Courthouse area come in to Xenia on Route 35. From Middletown and the south Dayton area take I-75 to I-675 to Route 35. Take that East into Xenia and in the center of town head north on Route 68.
Jim’s place is just past the intersection of E. Enon Rd and Hyde Rd.
If you are unsure of the direction check Google Maps or your GPS.
Jim has a variety of Unique aircraft that includes a Stinson Detroiter, a couple of Aeronca C-3’s, A Hatz biplane and he is still restoring a Standard J-1. The Standard was used as a WW I trainer along with the better known Curtis Jenny. Many Standards were built in the Wright Aircraft Company in Moraine, OH. Jim’s aircraft was not built in Moraine.
The Standard is probably best known from the movie “The Great Waldo Pepper”
See you on the 18th.
