EAA Chapter 284 will hold its March meeting on Sunday March 13, 2016. Location: Red Stewart Airfield (40I)  Time: 2:30 PM Daylight Saving Time Begins at 2:00 am Sunday March 13, 2016 – Be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour

Raspberry PI ADS-B update.

I am wondering if anyone other than Dean has constructed a Raspberry PI 2 based ADS-B system. I notice that Microcenter in Cincinnati has the newer Raspberry Pi 3 Model B in stock now for $34.99. There is a limit of 1 at this time. The Raspberry Pi 3 is built on the latest Broadcom 2837 ARMv8 64bit processor the new generation Raspberry Pi 3 Model B is faster and more powerful than its predecessors. It has improved power management to support more powerful external USB devices and further to customer feedback based development the new Raspberry Pi 3 now comes with built-in wireless and Bluetooth connectivity.

I have checked with the Statux web pages and have not found any updates regarding the Raspberry Pi 3. This model included built in Wi-Fi. This would save the cost of a Wi-Fi adaptor if the built in adaptor is compatible with the system design.

It looks like the chapter will now have several active pilots. Perhaps its time we considered the possibility of some Saturday fly outs. We can discuss that on Sunday.

At the end of January I received a notice that the hanger that I had been renting for my project had been sold. I need to move my project quickly to off airport storage with the help of several friends.

When moving out I had a great deal of help from Rod Thompson and friends from the British Transportation Museum. Mike Barton took a number of pictures of the move and placed them on the Museum’s Facebook page. Check them out. For those with Facebook pages and those monitoring the Chapter’s Facebook page be sure to like the British Transportation Museum. The museum is still in the process of cleaning their building, However I can arrange private tours of the museum for those interested.

I now have another hanger at Moraine Airpark and will be moving the project back, Hopefully during the next week. Pick up trucks and cargo vans are always welcome. If you might have the time to help please let me know. rpluken@earthlink.net or 937-602-7418. Most likely I will be moving in the daytime, with some early evening possibility.

I am encouraging all members to come up with topics, speakers and programs for our monthly meetings.

In honor of Mother’s Day our May meeting will be moved to the 4th Sunday (May 15) so that members can spend the day with their wives and mothers.
